Celebrating Refugee Lives

   


The Centre for Refugee Research is pleased to announce that the"Celebrating Refugee Lives:  Stories of Strength and Resilience' Toolkit is now available for purchase.

This toolkit highlights the inspiring contributions and successes of refugees settling in Australia. It includes a film, a book of refugee stories of settlement and a short training program. The materials are designed as a community education resource to enhance understanding of refugee experiences and to dispel the often damaging myths which impact upon resettling groups.

Video Welcome Message

   This is a 2 minute preview of "Welcome to Kakuma"

      

 

"Welcome to Kakuma" This 20 minute video filmed in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, was produced by the Centre in partnership with AUSTCARE and ANCORW (The Australian National Committee on Refugee Women). The video provides an overview of conditions in the camp, introduces some of the refugee families currently living there and the NGOs who provide services to the camp inhabitants. Don Bosco, the NGO who provides Vocational training to the young people there and are partially funded by AUSTCARE are also featured. The video includes a section which focuses particularly on the high degree of risk faced by women and girls in the camp. This video is an ideal teaching tool for Aid workers, community workers, secondary and tertiary students.

A 10 page report produced by Dr Eileen Pittaway and Linda Bartolomei after their visit to the camp is included with the video.
